Dang Nabit, It's Cold Outside

I am going to venture to say that today is the coldest it has been all year. Last night, it was in the single digits and this morning, it's not much higher.

I was going to take the little one out to walk the mall - like we do on Fridays - but it's just too cold to go out.

Instead, I pay bills. Joy of joys. But at least there's money to pay them. Always look to the positive side of things, eh?

Life has become a little mundane, but I blame it on the weather. Yesterday, I took Patrick for his four month appointment with the pediatrician. He's getting big - 13 pounds, 8 ounces and 24 inches in length. That's a gain of 2 pounds in two months and 2.5 inches in the same amount of time. I also took some time to see the doc - just to have my blood pressure checked. Finally, it's back to normal. I'm so thankful. It only took an entire pregnancy, plus four more months. But it's all good now. No complaints.

Happy Leap Year, by the way.

Oh, and for the Lost fans out there: what the beejeesus is going on there? Can someone shed some light? I am soooo confused...

PS - I just reread this and saw how boring this post is, but honestly, I just don't have the energy or desire to change or delete it. We'll be in Miami in a few weeks and I am sure I'll return with happy tales of my dysFUNctional family. :)

Weird, Just Weird

I was due back to work today. Instead, I went to my old office to pack up my personal stuff. Technically, it's not my office anymore, because I am no longer employed.

Afterward, I went to lunch with my (former) boss and co-workers. While I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with my (former) co-workers, I found it odd to have my (former) boss sitting there with a semi-blank look on her face. It was almost as if she felt forced to be there. It was enough for me to take notice. But then again, maybe I'm just overly sensitive.

Strangely enough, it didn't make me sad to say goodbye. And now, as I type this, I'm actually smiling.

(I just reread this and noticed that I overly used commas. My ninth grade English teacher would be proud.)

Month Four

Dear Patrick,

How is it that days turn into weeks and then, a month has gone by? It seems like just yesterday you turned three months old and now you are suddenly four months. Four months, Patrick! Only a year ago, your dad and I learned that you were coming into this world. It seems like an eternity ago – you are so present in our lives, we aren’t even sure what life was like before you.

This month, you have grown by leaps and bounds. You love your new bedroom and have even started to sleep through the entire night! The first night, your dad and I were so surprised, we could hardly believe you slept nearly 8 hours without making a peep.

Getting ready for a trip to Miami!

We have been spending countless hours together and I think you enjoy spending the days with me. We sing and dance in the kitchen, and you watch me as I prepare lunch and dinner. Sometimes, we watch television, but I usually let your dad sit with you in front of the tv. Every Friday, we walk the mall. You have admirers that wait for you: the woman in the coffee shop, the marketing recruiter in the food court and the Weight Watchers meeting leader. They all wait for you on Fridays – they want to see if you are awake, if you are willing to flash them your gummy smile, if you look handsome dressed in whatever outfit I have chosen for you. Patrick, you love Fridays! By the time we get home, you are exhausted and drift off to sleep in the early evening.

Your eating habits haven’t changed – we can still set our watches by you. One minute, you are all smiles and the next, you are demanding your bottle. Demanding.

You have started to drool quite a bit, so we are sure that teething is on the horizon. IN an effort to soothe yourself, you have started to suck on your fingers. We have tried to give you teethers, but you won’t have it. So, it’s your fingers that make you feel better.

Physically, you are strong. Your neck and back muscles have really advanced this month and you are trying to sit up on your own. We bought you a seat that helps build your abdominal muscles, and at first, you were skeptical of it, but in time, you started to like it. Still no rolling over, but you are trying!

At home, hanging out with Mommy in the kitchen

You love your bathtime. Your dad washes you hair while I wash your body. And when we rinse you, you are delighted.

You still don’t have much hair, but the bit you have is a great mixture of colors: blond, brown, and even a little red. You are definitely a mixture of your dad and I, and every time I look at you, I am amazed that we created you.

Until next month,
Mommy

This is how your hard-core Commie works...

Like many Cuban-Americans and Cubans in exile, I have always thought the demise of that commie rat would be a painful death. But wishes and desires aren't always granted.

Instead, we're getting a resignation and the passing of the torch the a younger brother.

Not the ideal but what can you do? After nearly 50 years of waiting...

... we continue to wait.

60 Things on Valentine's Day*

I haven't done a meme in a really long time, but I figured I should get back into the swing of things. Of course, being the overachiever that I am, I just had to do one that's extremely long. Adventures of a Stay at Home Mom

It's laundry day. I'm on the third load.

That's it.

Pathetic, no?

Milestones

Does sleeping from 8:30 last night until 5 this morning count as sleeping through the night?

Hells, yeah!

My little boy slept through the night. He woke up famished and practically swallowed his entire bottle.

Today, he drools. And drools. And drools some more. Teething must really suck, that's what I say.

PSA for Moms *Updated

So, I don't normally ask my three readers to do anything for me, but I am asking something today - please join Kizoodle. It's a site for moms to 'trade' or 'sell' items, including baby stuff, mommy stuff, and even daddy stuff.

Basically, you check out the different categories (baby clothes, nursery items, coupons, etc) for things you might want. Then, with your credits, you can 'buy' them. Most sellers will list decent credit prices for newly new items and reasonable credit prices to ship them to you.

Here's the only catch - before you can buy, you have to sell one thing. Yeah, I know, really difficult. But when I got started on this about a month ago, I scanned the section where folks post items they need. I contacted the posters and voila! I made a sale.

Kizoodle will give you credits just for joining, so that helps. And if you do join, please use my reference code: 1JAGIK.

So far, I've sold fabric pieces, blankets, baby bottles, and coupons. I've been able to buy coupons for baby formula, which is my primary reason for being on the site. But I've also been able to get other items - even a holder for the dishwasher that holds the accessories for Patrick's bottles - for a fraction of what it would cost me at a store.

For more information on Kizoodle, please email me or leave me a comment. Thanks!

*Update: Apparently, you do need a referral to use my code - please send me an email withyou email and I will do just that - thesnowapewife[at]gmail[dot]com

Many thanks to acb for pointing that out to me!
