Diplomacy

Patrick uses a variety of words to get his point across.  Over the last year, we've listened to his vocabulary grow and are happy to hear him speak in full sentences.  Sometimes, he says things that we clearly have not taught him, for instance, "go away."  We've taught him that it's mean to say it.

Last night, I was laying in bed with him, chatting about his day.  He told me about school, his lunch, playing with his friend, Tyler, and how another friend, Caden, has gotten in trouble for not listening.  He recited the Pledge of Allegiance and then said his blessings for the day.  As we were finishing, Mike came in and laid with us.

"Mommy, I'm not going to say 'go away' because it's mean," Patrick told me.  He proceeded to repeat it and I said, "Are you ready to go to bed?  Do you want Daddy and I to leave?"

He quickly responded, "No, I want Daddy to stay.  And I won't say 'go away' because it makes you sad."

I got the hint, kissed him good night and left him to bond with his father.  Three and a half years old and he's a diplomat.  Sheesh.
