The First of Many, I'm Sure

Today, when I picked Patrick up from school, his teacher told me he'd had a hard time keeping his hands to himself.  As a matter of fact, he was sent to time-out TWICE.  Having never been there, he wasn't sure what was going on.

Later, I asked him if he was hitting his friends.  He denied it.  But still, throughout dinner and bedtime, I reiterated that he shouldn't hit his friends.

I feel so ashamed.  I'm trying to keep my head clear about this, but I have no idea how to react.

Patrick is 3, right? It's completely normal for kids his age to test limits by hitting. And you don't see it at home since he's usually the only kid around, and I'm sure he knows better than to hit mommy and daddy.
You did good by reiterating that it's not right to hit.

Don't worry too much about it though. It will pass. Just keep addressing it when it comes up.

p.s. Want to laugh? when I ask Matty how his day was and if he behaves, he says: "It was good. I didn't hit nobody".

Amanda, thanks for the insight. We spent yesterday talking about being nice to friends. This morning, I asked him if he planned on hitting his friends. He looked at me with his big brown eyes and said, "No Mommy. I give them nice-nice."

I know what you mean. Jordan does the same thing sometimes. We talk about being nice every time I drop him off. This last week he has been suffering from allergies and has been a bit crazy though.
